Hello and welcome.
My name is Sarah Capozzi and I am a New England-based Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience in counseling and therapy. I have skills primarily in emotional issues, such as depression and anxiety, as well as in treating issues surrounding self-esteem, stress, boundaries, self-care, and family/relationship dynamics. I specialize in areas of cultivating self worth and healing from childhood relational trauma, with a focus on helping adult children of narcissistic or other personality disordered parents heal, develop new narratives and healthy coping strategies, and feel whole, lovable and self-confident. In addition to my clinical and psychotherapy experience, I also worked for several years in Medical Social Work, specifically HIV/AIDS case management and Hospice Care, and have considerable experience in healthcare and end-of-life emotional support.
I identify my approach to therapy as generally psychodynamic in nature, however I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and empathetic, solution-focused techniques. I find focusing on self-worth, boundaries, and changing disruptive thought patterns and narratives to be very useful in bringing about significant change in one’s life. I find much value in building and nurturing an empathetic, supportive relationship between therapist and client; I believe this relationship to be absolutely essential to the process of healing and growing in therapy. I strongly believe that compassion, trust and consistent support are essential. As a social worker in training, I believe in client self-determination and the inherent dignity and worth of every person. As such, I acknowledge that you are the expert in your own individual experiences, feelings, agenda, and goal-setting. With that said, I define my role as more of a collaborator, support, and guide in the therapeutic process.
It takes a lot of courage and self-love to embark on the therapeutic journey. It also takes a lot of trust. I am honored to be a part of this process of helping you effect positive and lasting change in your life. I truly look forward to working with you!
